Welcome Letter

Dear Families,

It was so nice meeting your child this afternoon!  I am excited to be their first grade teacher. Next year will be full of learning, laughing and fun.  I believe that a strong parent/teacher relationship is key to your child’s success and look forward to working with you to ensure your child’s transition to first grade is smooth.

First grade is full of new and exciting experiences.  Students will have art, music, wellness and library.  They will get to visit our brand new Innovation Lab too! Students will explore scientific phenomena through investigations, learn more about social studies through inquiry-based units, continue their mathematical practice and get to publish their very own fiction and non-fiction books.  We will, of course, read lots of great books!  First grade is going to great!

A Few Things to Remember:

  • If possible, please try to limit dismissal changes during the first few weeks of school.  Lots of changes can be confusing to the children.  All dismissal changes need to be in writing. Please do not send them via email.

  • The school provides basic supplies for our 1st graders but donations of crayons, scissors, colored pencils, markers, and glue sticks are appreciated.

  • Your child will need a folder to carry papers to and from school.

  • We will have a 15-minute snack period every day.  Please be sure to send your child to school with a healthy snack/drink that will keep them going all morning/afternoon.  Please pack your child’s snack separate from their lunch.  We are a peanut/nut free classroom.

If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s adjustment to 1st grade, please do not hesitate to contact me (ncoulter@westfordk12.us).  I am excited about next year and look forward to working with you to make your child’s 1st grade experience a smooth and enjoyable one.
I look forward to seeing them again on Tuesday, August 27th.

Have a wonderful summer!
